A TEENAGE boy who claimed he was kidnapped and beaten by a group of seven had given a “wildly inaccurate” account of the incident, a court heard.

The 16-year-old, who cannot be named, was cross examined on day two of the trial at Oxford Crown Court yesterday.

The boy told the jury on Monday that he was kidnapped from Rymers Lane, Cowley, while walking with a friend. He said he was driven to Cowley Marsh Park where he was attacked with weapons.

But David Hislop, defending a 17-year-old boy who also cannot be named, yesterday asked the alleged victim why his friend did not phone the police about the incident, and later told officers he was not scared of the alleged attackers.

“If your account of being dragged off the street and forced into this car is right, can you think of any reason why (your friend) didn’t alert the police?

“Might the reason be that you simply made up a wildly inaccurate account designed to seek retribution against the men in the dock?” he said.

“Why would I go through all this if it was not true?” replied the boy.

Mr Hislop said the boy, who went to police more than four months after the alleged kidnapping on December 16, 2007, was persuaded to make a formal complaint only after an incident on April 2, 2008, when one of his older brothers was involved in a fight with one of the defendants in Florence Park, Cowley.

Six men and a boy deny kidnapping and causing ABH to the 16-year-old and kidnapping 19-year-old Mandeep Singh on March 17, 2008, in Oxford Road, Cowley.

Four of the group also deny a charge of violent disorder relating to an incident in Cowley Road, East Oxford, on April 7, 2008.

The trial continues.
