PUB GOERS donned their thinking caps, as well as their drinking caps, as they propped up the bar and answered questions in aid of a local good cause.

The charity quiz took place at the Rusty Bicycle in Hurst Street, East Oxford, on Thursday, with 25 teams battling it out to prove their intelligence over a pint.

Oxford Mail photographer Ed Nix compered the event, with the newspaper’s own team coming out on top, winning a curry at the Majliss restaurant in Cowley Road as their reward.

Organiser Annabelle Palmer, 23, of Hurst Street, pictured right, with Chris Brown, left, from the pub, said: “It was quite an electric atmosphere because there were so many people. I’ve never seen a pub quiz so busy. The reaction to the answers was amazing, the whole pub just erupted. It was manic.

“I’m completely overwhelmed with the support I received from everyone who helped me organise it.”

The night raised £300 in sponsorship for Miss Palmer’s Trailtrekker challenge later this month, where she will aim to walk 100km in 30 hours in the Yorkshire Dales for Oxford-based international aid charity Oxfam.

She said: “I used to work at Oxfam and it was inspirational.I wanted to do something to support the people I used to work for. It will be walking in a beautiful setting.”
