SPIDERMAN and Superman caused a stir when they got together to give away thousands of pounds worth of collectable comics to attract new fans.

Videosyncratic, in Cowley Road, Oxford, gave away more than 2,000 comics, including DC and Marvel brands, which usually coast about £2.60 each, to mark International Free Comic Book Day yesterday.

The day was set up to encourage child literacy and promote independent businesses.

2000 AD comic book artists Richard Elson and Simon Davies, and writer Dan Abnett were on hand to sign copies of comics.
