INFLATABLE obstacles and people in oversized costumes will descend on an Oxford park as the game show It’s a Knockout is revived for charity.

Teams are being urged to enter the event, which will take place in South Park this summer in aid of Viva, an Oxford-based Christian charity working with disadvantaged children across America, India, Africa and Asia.

Charity spokesman Angela Murray said: “A company comes in with massive inflatables and brings all the costumes, like monster costumes.

“There will be wheelbarrows, lots of foam and water, and obviously we are hoping for a really nice day.

“It’s basically a giant obstacle course for adults. We hope to get 10 teams of 10 people and we ask each one to raise £1,000.

“That sounds like a lot, but it breaks down to each team member asking 10 friends to give them £10.

“The money raised will go to help fund summer camps in South Africa and the Dominican Republic. Many children there live in extreme poverty and do not have a chance to have fun. The summer camps give them a break from their daily routines and enable them to enjoy themselves and breathe fresh air.

“There will also be practical benefits at the summer camps such as health checks and dental checks.”

Miss Murray added: “This is the second year we’ve organised the It’s a Knock-out event at South Park. Last year we had 80 competitors and we are trying to build on that and also make it a community event.

“We are looking to make a great connection between adults having fun in Oxford and raising money to help children in extreme poverty elsewhere in the world.”

The two-hour event will begin at 11.30am on Saturday, June 27, and is open to teams of over-18s.
