A holiday romance turned into 60 years of happy marriage for an Abingdon couple.

Liz and Les Bradshaw, pictured with great-grandson Hugh, celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary recently with friends and family.

Mr Bradshaw, 84, met his future wife while he was holidaying in her home town of Blackpool.

The couple, who have three children, six grandchildren and two great- grandsons, moved to Abingdon in 1964, where Mr Bradshaw worked at UKAEA Harwell and Mrs Bradshaw, 86, worked for Abingdon Library. Members of Abingdon Baptist Church, they now live in Bath Street.

Mrs Bradshaw said that music was a shared interest. Mr Bradshaw was part of the Abingdon Operatic Society and played banjo in the Friendly Folk Dance Band. Mrs Bradshaw was a member of the Abingdon and District Music Society and is still part of the choir in the Association of Students of the Third Age.

She said: “We have had ups and downs, but I think the ups were better than the downs and the children and family kept us going.”
