Hundreds of Horrid Henry fans gave children’s author Francesca Simon a warm welcome at the launch of the Oxford Literary Festival.
The popular writer visited the Town Hall, in St Aldate’s, to talk to 300 children and their parents about her latest stories.
Among the fans she met were brothers and sister Louis, seven, Lara, five, and Milo Hynes, 10.
Ms Simon, a graduate of Jesus College, was the first of 430 authors due to appear at the festival, which runs until Sunday.
Tamsin Jewell, from East Oxford, was at the talk with her son Jun, 10, a pupil at SS Mary and John Primary School, in Meadow Lane.
Jun said: “It was great when she read out her new story, Horrid Henry’s Bad Present.
“I like the way she gets ideas from real life.”
