TV fashion gurus Trinny and Susannah ran their eyes over Oxford shoppers yesterday and were impressed by what they saw.

The famously honest duo of Trinny Woodall and Susannah Constantine, stars of ITV’s Undress the Nation, were in the city to promote their new book — but took the time to critique a few brave souls who volunteered to have their dress sense analysed.

The pair also shared tips with fans as to how best to dress for their body shape, be it ‘goblet’, ‘pear’, vase’ or ‘column’.

Dawn Berry, 27, from Woodstock Road, arrived at Borders in Magdalen Street an hour before the stylists arrived to sign copies of their new ‘body bible’ Who Do You Want To Be Today?

Trinny, 42, complimented Ms Berry on her ‘tiny waist’ and said: "It is very good — when you’re wearing a skirt like that you don’t know where your crotch ends and your skirt begins," before recommending she try a Kate Moss-style ‘choppy’ haircut.

Ms Berry said: "I’m shocked. The only reason they were nice is because I read their books before and followed their advice.

"They were wonderful. I thought they would have been much harsher — I’ll be getting my haircut now."

Karina Larsem, 17, who was also assessed, said: "They gave me lots of compliments.

"I wasn’t expecting that. It’s a confidence boost. I’m quite insecure about my bottom, but they said it was lovely."

Gillian Wainwright, 54, from Saunders Road, East Oxford, said: "I’m a big fan of theirs.

"They can give you so many hints — their books are terrific. They gave me some help about Internet sites for larger footwear.

"They are lovely — absolutely lovely."

Before the signing, Susannah, 44, said she had spotted a few 'cute' boys in the city and added: "The girls seemed to be making an effort, even if it was in quite a grungy way.

"They were all kind of hip."

Trinny added: "Book signings are one of the nicest things Susannah and I do.

“We always have a very receptive audience. It’s a chance for us to get to know the people who buy our books.

"They want to ask ‘what’s my body shape?’ and what is very nice is they feel they know us already."
