Sir — Daniel Laurence (Letters, September 19) is wrong to insist that I said God is the cause of all disasters in the world.

Disasters are random events in the natural world for which no force for either good or evil appears to be to blame.

The central point of my August letter was that I would much rather rely on science to try and predict these terrible events rather than an appeal, through prayer, to the Loving Creator not to let them happen again.

As for Mr. Laurence's belief that secular bodies are replacing religion with escalating violence and evil then I would like to invite him to a meeting of our group. He will not need to bring security guards or a Bible.
