Thanks to two readers, we have managed to piece together most of the names of the people in the picture of the street party at Cutteslowe, Oxford (Memory Lane, July 28).

Ann Spokes Symonds started the ball rolling by asking if anyone could recall the occasion.

It was thought it might be an end-of-war celebration.

That idea was quickly discounted — the general feeling was that it was a party to celebrate the Queen's Coronation in 1953.

However, two readers believe it was held to coincide with the Festival of Britain in 1951.

Whatever the occasion, Janet Probitts, of Cromwell Way, Kidlington, and Hilary Hilton, of Evans Court, Kidlington, have compiled the following list of names.

They appear in the picture as Janet Wickens and Hilary Bishop.

Our thanks to them and to other readers who wrote in —- can anyone fill in the gaps?

The picture is due to appear among many others in Cutteslowe and Summertown Book Two, in the series of local history books, due to be published soon.
