A pharmacy which has served a city community for 100 years is moving.
The Alliance Pharmacy, at 8 Windmill Road, Headington has been run by various businesses in the past century, but the shop is now going up for sale as the business moves to a new site next to the Bury Knowle Health Centre, in London Road. Manager Eujin Chai knows that for some of his customers, it is going to be a bit of a change.
He said: "I think it will be hard for some people. The majority of our customers are locals and some people have have been coming here for 50 years.
"But the new shop will be able to offer a much better service."
Dispenser Lucie Ranger said everyone was now preparing for the closed sign to be turned for the last time at 1pm on Saturday.
Miss Ranger said: "I know there are some people that have a sentimental attachment to the shop. But for me, I'm looking forward to a brand new dispensary.
“The shop is old and rather small and we simply don't have the room any more."
And Miss Ranger assured customers the pharmacy — which is being taken over by Boots when it relocates to the new site — will still offer the same personal service when its doors open on Monday morning She said: "People have been using the shop for so long because of all the little things that we do.
"We order a lot of stuff in especially for certain customers, creams and potions and things that they have used for a long time but can't get anywhere else.
"None of that will change when we move to the new site.
“We know most of our customers by name when they come into the shop, and the staff that are here now will be at the new store.
"The only difference will be that it is a brand new building."
The new store will have its opening ceremony on Monday, September 29, and they hope to get their oldest customer to cut the ribbon.
