As you may already know, this year Oxford Playhouse are taking a show to the Edinburgh Festival! One Small Step, a fast and furious space race adventure was written by a former Stage Door Keeper here at the Playhouse and our Director, Michelle Dickson thought the script was so good that she wanted to produce it and take it to the Festival.

This week marks the first week of rehearsals. We have two very strong actors on board (Robert Hemmings and Oliver Hollis) and a fantastic director (Toby Hulse) and, so far, everything is on track.

Taking a show to Edinburgh is no easy task. Once you have secured a place in the Festival and a venue (One Small Step will be playing at 5pm each day in the Wildman Room at the prestigious Assembly Rooms) the task is laid out to start promoting the show. With over 2000 other shows at the Festival this is no easy ride! We are doing everything we can think of to get the show noticed, from planning eye-catching stunts to blitzing Edinburgh city with our fabulous print. Often though, it’s not what you know but who you know, so not enough can be said for spending lots of time on the phones trying to make friends with key contacts!

Hopefully though it will all be worth it. The show is shaping up to be a corker, and lot funnier then we imagined (which can only be a good thing!) , so fingers crossed we will have lots of full-houses, lots of rave reviews and lots of good profile for the Playhouse…
