A four-day music extravaganza will begin on Friday in the centre of Woodstock.

Woodstock Live will include bands performing a range of music types from a vantage point in the centre of town. Legendary 1970s rockers Mr Bigwill headline tomorrow night's event at The Marlborough Enterprise Centre in Shipton Road.

A stage in Market Place will then be used for three days by bands including the Tom Waits inspired Braindogs, Blues act Blue Touch and the surf sounds of Dave Bowmer. Andrew Frost, manager of The Star Inn, which sponsors the Market Place stage, said: "Woodstock Live gets everyone together for four days. Everyone comes out and everyone enjoys themselves.

"It is just a wicked atmosphere and it is really good for the town. The music is excellent. It is really well put together and we have got everything from folk to rock to blues and jazz. A lot of them are local bands too, which is good."

Woodstock Live is part of Wake Up To Woodstock, a campaign to inspire more people to visit the town.

Other events lined up include Woodstock Celebrates Books - a three day literary festival in October - and a showcase of art around the town in the week long Art in Woodstock, also in October.
