An Indian restaurant in Oxfordshire has been handed a low food hygiene rating.

Sylheti Spice at Market Place in Wantage was given a score of two out of five after an inspection on March 20 from the council’s environmental health team.

The assessment means improvement is deemed to be "necessary".

It means that of the Vale of White Horse's 195 restaurants, cafes and canteens with ratings, 128 (66 per cent) have ratings of five and none have zero ratings.

The inspection looks at hygienic food handling, cleanliness and the condition of facilities and management of food safety.

The inspection reveals that hygienic food handling was the contributing factor to the restaurant’s low rating.

Businesses given low ratings are told what specific improvements are needed to improve hygiene standards.
