A four-year-old poodle has visited a Headington care home after its resident's votes saw her win the home's community pet competition.

Residents at Headington Care Home met rescue poodle Millie after the home put out a request for pet pictures to the community.

Millie was voted by residents as their favourite, which saw her win the competition and her owner, Noelle Williams, receive a hamper full of pet goodies.

The appeal, launched to mark National Pet Day, drew more than 400 entries.

Magic moments coordinator at the care home, Ella Clempson, said: "The response from our local community was incredible. We had hundreds of photos of dogs, cats and a few tortoises and snakes sent in.

"Our residents loved picking their favourite pet and enjoyed reminiscing about the pets they’ve had in the past.

"When I told them that Millie was going to come in and visit them, they were over the moon.

“Pet visits are really popular at Headington; spending time with animals has many benefits, particularly for older people, and contributes hugely to their emotional well-being.”

One resident said: “It was fantastic to meet Millie. She’s very soft and fluffy as even cuter in real life."
