A body of a man has been recovered from a stretch of water across the border from Oxfordshire as searches continue into two missing people in this county.

Officers from Thames Valley Police with support from Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service, have recovered a man’s body from the water near Sonning Bridge in Berkshire. 

At around 9.30am this morning (April 20) Thames Valley Police received reports of a body in the River Thames near Sonning Bridge.

Chief Inspector Rob Platt, said: “Sadly we have today discovered the body of a man.

“From our enquiries we believe the man recovered from the water is missing person Daniel, aged 39, who went missing from the Caversham area of Reading in the early hours of Monday, March 4.

“Daniel's next of kin have been informed and are being supported by officers.  

“Our thoughts remain with them at this very difficult time.

 “Our enquiries are ongoing but the death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be passed to the coroner in due course.”

It comes as Thames Valley Police has also been conducting a search after a man in his 60s was believed to have entered the water in Oxford's East Street at around 1pm on Tuesday, April 9.

The search into this continues with the Oxford Mail asking Thames Valley Police for an update on this today (April 20).

A separate search is taken place in Oxfordshire after a woman named Iona was last seen in Witney town centre on Monday, February 12.

Following the 76-year-old’s disappearance, police divers took part in a major search operation of 2km of the River Windrush and a specialist dive team from Avon and Somerset were brought in.
