A WOMAN and child who were injured in a house fire which took the life a man in his 60s have been released from hospital, police have confirmed.

Thames Valley Police officers confirmed late on Friday (April 19) that a man was killed in a blaze that started at a house in Franklin Road, Headington, at about 2am.

A woman and a child had both been taken to hospital and were receiving treatment. They have been since been released, police have confirmed today (Saturday, April 20).

A spokesman for Thames Valley Police said: “We continue to work alongside Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service to investigate the cause of the fire on behalf of the Oxfordshire coroner.

“The two other people who were injured an adult and a child have been discharged from hospital.

“Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of the man who tragically died.”

A police cordon was in place from the early hours of the morning throughout the day as firefighters continued to tackle the blaze and smoke continued to billow.

Forensics teams were also sighted at the location as investigations into the incident were carried out.

The cause is currently known.

The fire has come as a shock to neighbours in the street who describe Franklin Road as a 'quiet and residential place'.
