Another stabbing has shocked Oxford as members of the public gave first aid to a man who suffered knife wounds after an incident close to Isis Lock on Sunday evening.

Police were called to reports of a man aged in his 20s being stabbed close to the lock near Oxford train station at around 5.40pm.

He was taken to hospital with a serious but not life-threatening injury to his arm.

A 28-year-old man from Oxford has been arrested on suspicion of section 18 grievous bodily harm with intent and he remains in police custody.

Thame Valley Police has reassured residents the force “does not believe there to be any wider risk to the local community” following a number of incidents this year.

These incidents sparked the Oxford Mail to launch its anti-knife crime campaign, which aims to raise awareness of how the crime can be prevented.

The first incident took place in Littlemore on Sunday, February 25 when Tobias Bruce, 32, of Arthray Road, Oxford, was stabbed to death, launching a murder investigation.

Four days after the incident in Littlemore, a man sustained several stab wounds and was hospitalised after an incident in Edgecombe Road.

The third incident saw the launch of an attempted murder investigation following an altercation off Cowley Road between 6.30pm and 7pm on March 13.

Kane Khan, a man in his 40s, was attacked in Manzil Way nearby.

Worshippers at the Central Oxford Mosque gave first aid to the man who was said to have been stabbed.

Hassan Hussain, 24, of Nye Bevan Close, Oxford, appeared at Oxford Crown Court on Friday (April 11) charged with one count each of attempted murder, possession of an imitation firearm, namely a handgun, and possession of a bladed article, namely a ‘Rambo’ knife.

He denies the charges.

A fourth incident took place on the same day of Manzil Way incident outside of Oxford which saw the death of 45-year-old Dale Bond in Mullein Road, Bicester.

Alex Chivers, co-founder of RAPAID, who provide emergency bandage kits, said: “Knife crime seems to be on the rise in Oxford and it is at the forefront of everyone's mind.

“It does not seem uncommon in the news unfortunately."

Detective Inspector Krista Thompson, of Oxford Criminal Investigation Department (CID), said: “I appreciate that we have had a number of incidents in recent weeks, but I would like to reassure the public that we are investigating this incident thoroughly and do not believe there to be any wider risk to the local community and do not believe it to be linked to any of the recent incidents.”
