A new splash park with sparkling butterflies, arching streams of fountains and a water fence that rolls into a tunnel is set to keep kids entertained this summer.

Didcot Town Council has placed an order with water play specialists, The Splash, to create the feature at Edmonds Park and with an estimated build time of 12 weeks.

It is hoped it will be finished in time for the summer holidays.

Among 24 nature-inspired features will be step-on activators shooting water at different heights, an elegant Swan shower, spraying peacock tails, a drench bucket and reed showers with watery spouts.

The splash park, due to cost about £450,000, will be next to the recently finished pavilion with it its new sports changing rooms, meeting rooms and community space.

Didcot South councillor Mocky Khan said: "It has been many years since the new Pavilion has been planned and the splash park is the second phase of this project.

"It is about time that Didcot residents had a park and leisure area to be proud of."
