A play centred on a British fascist leader is coming to Oxford and Didcot.
Draining the Swamp is touring from April 17 to 25 and will be at Cornerstone Arts Centre in Didcot on April 17 and Oxford Playhouse on April 20.
The performance explores Oswald Mosley's life and actions during the 1930s and 1960s alongside contemporary world issues.
Highlighting the rise of populism, far-right politics in Europe, and the anti-democratic pronouncements of Donald Trump, it offers a commentary on current political discourse.
Created by writer and actor Rowland D Hill, the production is delivered by The Company for DRH Arts.
It is directed by David Furlong, and designed by artist Jeffrey Choy.
The cast includes five actors portraying the roles of Oswald Mosley, his wife Diana, Cimmie Mosley, and William Joyce, among other characters.
Rowland D Hill said: "Over the last few years there has been an increasing return to nationalistic politics and to popular support for extremist politicians, who appear to place little store on democracy.
"This piece, focusing on Mosley the personality, is intended both as a warning, and to raise questions about the appropriate way for liberalism to challenge the brick wall mentality of populist movements".
The play has received high praise, with Counter Culture UK dubbing it "an incisive exploration of the rise of fascism" and One4review describing it as "a first class piece of historical theatre".
