Wantage care home residents are fundraising for cancer treatment for a much-loved donkey.

Norman, a regular visitor to Elmbrook Court on Grove Road, was diagnosed with sarcoids - aggressive tumours that frequently recur.

Sharon Ottley, lifestyles coordinator at the home, said: "We all adore Norman.

"He comes into our bistro and visits residents in their rooms.

"Animal therapy is wonderfully calming for our residents but Norman’s presence in the home also brings a different energy and gets people talking about their memories.

"When we knew Norman was ill and needed ongoing treatment, we decided we had to do something."

In response, the home held a cake sale and raised approximately £300 towards treatment for Norman.

Chloe Iles, the animal's owner and owner of Chloe’s Mobile Farm in Wiltshire, said: "I’m so touched by Elmbrook Court's efforts to raise money for this very special donkey.

"This donation from their cake sale is so much appreciated and covers the cost of his latest overnight hospital stay and check-up.”

As treatment for Norman, described as a "fit, healthy and happy donkey" could exceed £10,000, a crowdfunding page has been set up.

Diana Couzens, 83, a resident of Elmbrook Court, is pleased their efforts are helping.

She said: "Norman’s just beautiful.

"I hate to think of him being poorly and if we’ve done even a little bit to help him, then I’m glad about that."
