Rediscover classic tech at Cheney School exhibition

Cheney School's 'Technology through Time' Exhibition on March 19 will give visitors and students the chance to explore interactive exhibits showcasing tech items from different eras.

These include an old BBC microcomputer, model airplanes, flight simulator, and telephones through the ages, all housed in the new Lane Building at the Rumble Museum.

The school museum, which houses a collection of technology items - ranging from a 1950s Bakelite television, a phonograph and cylinders, 1930s gramophone, a 1950s radio, electric typewriter, and a 1990s to 2000s mobile phones - is forging a partnership with the History of Science Museum aimed at co-curating displays for visitors.

The wider community is encouraged to donate tech items from all eras and share stories or memories of using these technologies.

This is to create an oral history and contribute to the displays which combine elements of history, culture, design, and economy in the school curriculum.

Year nine students are also getting involved by exploring the artefacts and creating narratives that form connections with the varied aspects of school curriculum.
