Didcot mayor Axel Macdonald cut the ribbon and officially opened a new state-of-the-art sports pavilion in Didcot.

He was joined by deputy mayor Cllr Andrew Jones and guests for a buffet, welcome drinks and a dance performance from Bernardine Soul School of Dance at the opening of Edmonds Park Sports Pavilion.

The pavilion will provide changing facilities that meet national Sport England standards for teams and match officials.

There are also accessible changing rooms with first aid facilities.

Oxford Mail:

A multi-functional community space and two further rooms will be available to local clubs for a variety of activities, and a kitchen will serve both the pavilion and outside areas.

The single-storey building incorporates a number of sustainable and green technologies including ground source heat pumps and solar roof panels.

Since the old, worn out pavilion was removed in the summer of 2021 – there have been no permanent indoor facilities to serve the users of Edmonds Park which hosts a wealth of community and leisure activities throughout the year.

Mr Macdonald said: "Didcot deserves to have fine buildings for its inhabitants, and this is what we need.

"It is a growing town which needs facilities."

The council now plans to build a nature-themed splash park next to it which will have more than 30 different play features including a sprinkle wave, reed shower, butterfly drop, flower aqua tent, curve spray, water arch, swan shower, and more.
