In a commendable show of support for the 80th anniversary of D-Day, RAF Brize Norton personnel are volunteering with the 'Standing with Giants' charity.
The charity will install 1,475 silhouettes, crafted from recycled aluminium, across British Normandy Memorial's meadow fields come April.
Members from various segments of RAF Brize Norton, including Air Wing, General Duties Flight, Command Support Team, Air Mobility Force, 1 Tactical Police & Security Squadron, 4624 Squadron, and the Joint Air Delivery Test and Evaluation Unit, have offered their time to help prepare these poignant figures.
These teams, along with other Oxfordshire local groups, have dedicated their resources to help meet the charity project's deadline.
The aim of the project is to get 80 different groups or organisations to take part in preparing the installation, getting it ready for the April deadline, mirroring the commemorated D-Day anniversary.
Group Captain Claire O’Grady, Station Commander of RAF Brize Norton, said: "We have a range of people from across our Whole Force at RAF Brize Norton volunteering their time with this.
"This project has given myself and our personnel the chance to come together and have fun contributing to a cause with fantastic purpose.
"I have a personal family connection through my grandfather who was there on D-Day with the The Royal Yeomanry Regiment so for me contributing to this project means a lot."
Based in Oxfordshire, RAF Brize Norton is the largest RAF Station with a workforce of approximately 5,800 service personnel, 300 civilian staff, and 1200 contractors.
