A Didcot charity which provides education, employability and wellbeing support to young people has received a £1000 donation for its table tennis team.

RWE Didcot Power Station donated £1000 to South Oxfordshire Food and Education Alliance (SOFEA).

Following a successful 2023 in the Didcot and District Table Tennis League Handicap Tournament, the donation has enabled the purchase of team shirts and a serving robot for training.

Ed Jamieson, plant manager at RWE Didcot Power Station, said: "As a power station located next to the local community, we're more than happy to support SOFEA.

"Obviously, our charity budgets for the last three years have been focused on supporting youngster's post-pandemic.

"So, things like SOFEA and food banks are right at the top of our list and we were really impressed with the visit today.

"It's good to see these sorts of opportunities available for youngsters in the community.

"We have several types of trainee routes into the business, but it’s really good to see the opportunities here."

Bill Hanks, the coach for SOFEA’s table tennis team, added: "It’s a fantastic opportunity to get shirts and the table tennis robot as it benefits the kids tremendously and that’s what we’re here for, and it’s really appreciated."

SOFEA’s CEO Richard Kennell has been using the serving robot to improve his forehand, and it is hoped the machine will give the team an edge in this year's tournament.
