Householders had a lucky escape after fire broke out in the living room of their home.

Fire crews from Faringdon Fire Station were called to the village of Clanfield at around 7am this morning (February 27) after reports that a chimney was on fire.

When they arrived it was discovered that it was actually a fire in the lounge of the property.

Crews from Witney Fire Station then assisted to ensure the fire was out and the property was made safe.

Crew Manager Norris said: "Luckily the occupants smelt the smoke and were able to shut the lounge door to prevent further escalation, then safely evacuate the property.

"Closing internal doors at night or when not home, along with having working smoke alarms are very important safety measures to prevent fire spread and to give the best chance of safely evacuating in the event of a fire."
