The Holocaust Memorial Day candle will be shown on screens at Oxfordshire train stations to mark the national day of commemoration.

Great Western Railway (GWR) and Network Rail (NR) have worked with the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust (HMDT) to deliver the 'Light the Darkness' campaign.

Lit candles will be displayed on screens across the GWR network, including at Oxford and Didcot Parkway stations, presenting rail colleagues and passengers with an opportunity to join in the national moment of thought and reflection during their travel or work.

Paddington Station in London will also be bathed in purple light at 8pm on January 27.

HMDT has called on the UK public to participate in the national moment by safely displaying a lit candle in their windows, as a sign of support and remembrance of those affected by various forms of persecution and hatred.

GWR will also showcase the candle on station screens in Bridgwater, Exeter St Davids, Maidenhead, Reading, Slough, Swindon, Taunton and Westbury.

Holocaust Memorial Day is marked each year on January 27th, falling on the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi death camp, in 1945.

People are encouraged to share photos of their candle on social media and tag HMDT, and use the hashtags #HolocaustMemorialDay and #LightTheDarkness.
