Youngsters from John Hampden, Thame, shone in the national finals of the Tag to Twickenham rugby tournament at a rain-sodden Rugby School.

They topped their opening group after beating schools from Staffordshire, Yorkshire and Cornwall.

That took them into a second pool, where two draws and a defeat saw them finish third.

The two group winners, Holy Trinity Lamborey (Kent) and Grange Park, Winchmore Hill (London) then battled it out in the final.

Holy Trinity came out on top by six tries to three, and both finalists will play each other again before England's Calcutta Cup match against Scotland in the RBS Six Nations Championship at Twickenham next season.

The Tag to Twickenham finals day was the culmination of a programme run across England in conjunction with the Child Victims of Crime charity and YAZOO.

The John Hampden youngsters also got the chance to meet Mark Cueto, the England and Sale Sharks wing, who attended the finals day as the RFU's YAZOO tag rugby ambassador.

Former England No 8 Dean Richards, now director of rugby at Guinness Premiership club Harlequins, was also at the finals day.

John Hampden reached Rugby School after finishing runners-up in the South of England regional festival at Arbor Field, near Reading.
