Stunning" - that was Brian Sinfield's reaction to an exhibition of work by the Rosvik Collective. With his eye for talent, Brian wanted to make it easy for Oxfordshire enthusiasts to see paintings by the 24 Wiltshire artists. Sixty of their paintings are on display in his Burford Gallery until July 26. If you want to be overwhelmed by vivid colour in abstract and semi-abstract forms, then this show is for you. This is an almost all-female cast and only a few are full-time professional artists.

They have in common an inspirational teacher, Robin Child. The result is work of such high standard that a number of them exhibit regularly in London galleries. They also share a passion and dedication to painting. Working together takes the edge of a solitary occupation. Writing is also an essentially lonely occupation but firing ideas with other writers can recharge the spirit! I guess that is how they encourage each other.

They often paint together in a bright and airy workshop near Marlborough. Working side by side under the same teacher, it seems to me that they have influenced each other and adopted a similar accent. What has rubbed off on all of them is a delight in colour, and there are similarities in their palettes too, although the medium differs. Some are oil on canvass or board, others are in acrylics. While these works are abstract or semi-abstract. many appear rooted in landscape. Chloe Lamb's Abstract with Trees and Emerald Field and Vee Wallace's Fell Walk are evocative. I loved Erica Austin's Aldeburgh 11 with an effective contrast between strong angles and sensual curves. These are personal reactions and all the paintings are worth seeing.
