I would like to thank Insider for introducing the new Oxfordshire County Council Cabinet portfolio Place to readers (Oxford Mail, July 10).
The title Place has attracted some lighthearted banter and some dreadful puns, but the title, short and to the point, covers all issues included in the portfolio: Regenerating areas of deprivation Promoting community planning Building partnerships with market towns and town and parish councils A rural strategy and a rural forum to address concerns about access to services and declining local facilities Working with local members on community issues.
I would like to mention that the Local Government Act 2000 suggests that the management team of elected members be called cabinet and more than 300 councils in the UK use this name.
MELINDA TILLEY (Councillor) Cabinet Member for Place Oxfordshire County Council
