Sir - In response to the front page article Campaign to halt High desecration (July 4) suggesting a big reduction in local buses and removal of London and airport-bound coaches I would like to make the following points:

1: A great number of students, non-car owners (there are a lot of us about) and visitors using Oxford as a base, would be seriously inconvenienced by having to travel to a park-and-ride, especially if the local bus service was drastically reduced as well.

2: As the London and airport coaches operate during the night, arriving at the outskirts of the city with no staff or onward transport is surely not a sensible or safe way to travel.

Given that many of the passengers could be clients of the Old Bank and residents in the care of the colleges, should they be suggesting this option?

The London coaches also provide the park-and-ride service after the designated local service ends, currently 7pm. I think that these coaches should be taken out of the equation.
