A sixth form school student is unveiling a new war memorial he has created as part of the school’s Remembrance services this year.
Angus Timblick-Statham, a Year 13 student at UTC Oxfordshire, a mixed University Technical College in Harwell near Didcot, set about designing a new memorial for the school as both a course project and to pay respect for those who gave their lives in both world wars.
Angus, who is also a Royal Marines Cadet, designed and assembled the sculpture from scratch, utilising school workshops and equipment at his disposal.
He said: “I’ve been a cadet for seven years so I’ve spoken with many veterans and attended Remembrance services each year.
"This is a project that I’ve wanted to do for some time now. The school has been fully on board and my friends have been really supportive.”

The school’s Remembrance service takes place today (Friday, November 10) for sixth form students at 10.45am, where the unveiling will take place in the grounds, followed by readings and a two-minute silence.
Students enrolled in cadet forces have been invited to attend in uniform as representatives of their respective forces. Angus will be taking charge of them as a Marines Cadets.
He added: “This is also a project for my BTEC in Engineering, so it serves as an accumulation of things. I’m still in the process of crowdfunding to pay for all the materials used in the memorial’s creation.”
Angus has set up an online JustGiving page for people to donate to if they wish to help him finance the project.
