A roadside car fire near an Oxfordshire village was described as a “fierce blaze” by an eyewitness.

Colin Bowles said the A4095 near Kirtlington was closed yesterday evening (Wednesday, October 8) as the fire “completely gutted” the vehicle by the side of the main road.

He said: “As you were going round the corner, you saw the smoke going up. The blaze was very fierce and the car was completely gutted.

“I was following behind the fire engine. As soon as they got there, they put cones out and shut the road – not that anyone was planning to go past.

“Everyone turned around straight away. It was chaotic. It was just at the start of rush hour.”

Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service received a call at 4.19pm and sent one fire engine from Kidlington Fire Station to tackle the blaze.

The fire was extinguished using a high pressure hose reel.

The cause of the fire is unknown.
