Thames Valley Police's deputy chief constable is leaving the force to become Hampshire's new chief constable from October 16 this year.

Mr Marshall, 46, was appointed assistant chief constable of Thames Valley Police in August 2004, then became acting deputy chief constable in January 2006, before taking the role of deputy chief constable in May 2007.

During his time on the force he has overseen the policing of animal rights extremism and the campaign against a controversial animal research centre being built by Oxford University.
