The creator of the "Headington Shark 2.0" postbox topper is offering a reward for its safe return.

Jen Harper, who works at The Woolhound in Oxford's Covered Market, crocheted the shark for the letter box outside The Royal Standard pub on New High Street within sight of the iconic Shark House.

She secured it to the postbox with cable ties on New Year's Day but four days later, it was gone.

Now Ms Harper says if anyone can return it she will happily teach someone how to crochet for free with a lesson at The Woolhound.

Ms Harper creates "completely pointless" postbox toppers "to make the community smile".

When the Headington topper was snatched she said: "I'm taking it as a compliment because I make most of my things for my daughter and she just rejects them."

However, she did say there was no need for people to steal things as anyone can turn up to The Woolhound for lessons on knitting and crochet.

And she suggested the perpetrators might like to return it 'under cover of darkness'.

However, Ms Harper said she now figured that if someone had taken it, it was probably because they did not know how to make one themselves.

And she would happily teach them.

"It would be lovely if it could come back," she said. "I hope this shows that there are no hard feelings and it would be nice to put things right."
