Oxford and three other Oxfordshire towns are still in the running to be named worst places to live in the UK.

iLiveHere, which allows the public post their often hilarious views on the places they live, has published its annual nominations for England's worst towns and cities for 2023.

The satirical website has extended the voting time on its poll "to choose which provincial dirt hole in England is going to take the title of the worst place to live in the whole country".

Over 40 towns have now been eliminated but Oxford, as well as Henley, Abingdon and Banbury are still on the shortlist.

Confusingly Oxford is also 38th in the poll of Best Places to Live.

Upmarket celeb-studded Henley has most votes and is currently sitting at 13th place with 1.5 per cent of the vote.

One scathing online nomination reads: "10 years ago when we first moved to the town Henley was a quiet and beautful serene place with barely any crime and barely any *****. Now with the opening of various **** franchises there is an influx of the peasents and it must be stopped.

"The river is a beautiful thing until the ***** come along and tip anything that floats into it. Walking along the river i have seen trolleys and benches floating down through the current. Personally i think that the river is a suitable place for the ***** of Henley.

"Chuck em in and eventually they will remerge in Reading where they can be properly looked after."

Oxford is well below that in 22nd place with 1.06 per cent of the vote, followed by Abingdon in 36th place with 0.89 per cent.

Banbury has got away lightly and is currently 95th with just 0.28 per cent of the vote.

In previous years Didcot has featured on the list with far from kind comments prompting Mayor Mocky Khan and MP Ed Vaizey to leap to its defence.

In the 2022 poll Didcot was voted 11th Worst Place To Live and according to a scathing online nomination was: “A railway siding dressed up as a real portal to hell.”

But this year the South Oxfordshire town has not even made it on to the shortlist.

For those not seeing the funny side, ilivehere.co.uk helpfully states on its website: "ALL OPINION ARTICLES ARE FOR ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES ONLY AND ARE SATIRE."

Voting is open until the end of January for the best and worst place to live in England 2023.
