If you are keen to get involved in one of the county's biggest sporting events but are worried you might not be fit enough, there is an easier option.

The organisers of the Mazda Blenheim Triathlon, which is due to take place on Saturday, June 6, and Sunday, June 7, at Blenheim Palace, in Woodstock, are looking for volunteers to help with the race.

The event, which involves swimming, cycling and running, is staged in and around the lake and grounds.

Now in its fourth year, it has become the second largest event of its kind in the UK. Up to 4,000 competitors are expected to take part.

Spokesman Beth Sealey said: "The event wouldn't exist without the support of volunteers. This is a great opportunity to be a part of the team and help deliver a world-class event.

"The volunteer roles are vital for an event of this stature and everybody gets the chance to be part of the action on the day."

Roles include directing athletes, helping in transition (the changeover point), providing information for spectators or handing out medals.

Volunteers must be 16 or over. They will receive free refreshments, a limited edition T-shirt and an invitation to a volunteers' barbecue which takes place on the Saturday.

Mrs Sealey added: "Volunteering for an event like this is not only a great achievement, but it also gives you practical experience for future events, and that's especially exciting with the London 2012 Olympics coming."

Volunteers can opt to help for the whole weekend or just for a day.
