FIREFIGHTERS managed to stop a small fire destroying the thatched roof of a home in Uffington today.

Fire crews said the fire at a two-storey house in Woolstone Road was caused by a faulty light fitting in the bathroom.

They were called at 7.40am and the fire had spread to the inside of the roof.

Flames scorched a patch about a metre square of the thatched roof, but the blaze was extinguished before it spread any further, said a fire service spokesman.
