Number 13 was not unlucky for the Vale of White Horse when they opened their four-match programme at the annual English Schools' FA Festival on the Isle of Wight with a 4-1 victory over Mid-Somerset on Monday.

The Vale have had a 100 per cent record at the event in the last three seasons, so this was their 13th win in a row.

Ben Whitehead opened the scoring after only eight minutes and Oliver Taylor increased the lead four minutes later.

Although Mid Somerset played some excellent passing football, they could not find a breakthrough.

After the break, Vale took full control and Whitehead scored his second after cutting inside his defender and firing into the far corner.

It was only a fine performance from Alex Henderson in Mid Somerset goal that kept the score down, but he was powerless to stop Taylor adding a fourth goal.

Mid Somerset kept going and James Colby netted a late consolation.
