It's not often that I get irritated when I read your paper, but I found the story, Yobs blighting Rose Hill again (Oxford Mail, February 28) very frustrating.

The only people referred to in the article who said antisocial behaviour had gone up on the Oxford estate were two unnamed individuals.

Yet our Police Community Support Officers have reported that half term was very quiet, despite the fact that the dispersal order has been lifted, and no-one I meet can remember any incidents of note.

When it's half term, there are bound to be more young people about on the estate but just because they hang around in groups, it doesn't mean they're up to no good.

The latest Thames Valley Police statistics show that crime has fallen significantly on the estate.

So why is there a mis-match between the figures we are given and the portrayal of Rose Hill as some sort of hell-hole by the media?

In situations like this, the truth tends to be somewhere in between.

Please, Rose Hill residents, if you see any antisocial behaviour or anything suspicious, ring the action line on 08458 505505.

You can report situations anonymously, so there should be no fear of intimidation.

The PCSOs, street wardens and police can't take action unless they are kept informed of what is going on.

They come to every Tenants' and Residents' Association meeting so you can always raise issues with them there on the first Tuesday of each month.

Maybe it's time we organised some community surveys of our own to sort out the difference between people's fear of crime and what is actually going on.

Newspaper coverage like this doesn't help us improve the image of our estate at all, yet I enjoy living on Rose Hill, and so do lots of other people too!
