So £36,000 of council taxpayers' money has had to be paid to solve a problem caused by parents insisting on driving their children to Church Cowley St James School in Oxford (Oxford Mail, March 3).

Is it really necessary for so many children to be given a lift to school these days. Have their parents never heard of cycling or, better still, walking? Both would give their children fresh air and exercise, ease parking problems and save council taxpayers' money. Too many parents think that driving to school is the only option. It isn't.
