YOUNG actors are being given the chance to take part in a new film adaptation of Romeo and Juliet - which is set in Oxford.

City-based Youngstar TV and Film School is looking for young people aged between ten and 20, who are interested in acting and live in and around the city, to audition for parts.

The film will be a modern take on the classic William Shakespeare play, with all the action taking place in today's Oxford.

Louise Hart, who runs the school, said: "It's a fantastic opportunity for young, local people to develop their acting skills.

"It's open to anyone to come and have a go, regardless of whether or not they have acted before.

"And for anyone wanting to get into acting, it's a great chance to work alongside professional film crews and actors, meet new people and just have fun."

Youngstar will be holding a workshop on Saturday for anyone interested in taking part.

It is the second time Youngstar has come to Oxford in search of young actors.

Last year, young people from around the city worked on a film called The Occupants, which was given a Hollywood-style premiere at the Phoenix Picturehouse in Jericho.

Mrs Hart said: "We decided to come back to Oxford because we were so impressed with the standard of the youngsters we worked with last year.

"We are hoping to get just as many budding actors along this year, for what will be a very exciting project."

Tom Howard, 18, from Abingdon, starred in The Occupants and has gone on to appear in the TV series All About Us, working alongside Birds of a Feather actress Linda Robson.

He said: "Youngstar is a great film group to work with and a great place to meet new friends.

"Being a member has opened so many doors for me that I never would have dreamed of. I've now got an agent and have regular casting for feature films, EastEnders and the Disney Channel."
