As temperatures skyrocket across the county we all feel like we are slowly sizzling, but is it actually hot enough to cook an egg out there?

Oxfordshire is currently under a sweltering red weather alert for ‘extreme heat’, with a record breaking 36.7°C recorded in Oxford yesterday.

So you do not have to, the Oxford Mail undertook an eggs-periment to see if it is hot enough to cook a raw egg on the pavement.

Oxford Mail: The set up for the eggs-periment The set up for the eggs-periment

Stepping out of our air-conditioned office in Osney Mead we set up a tray directly in the boiling sun and left it for 30 minutes to heat up.

Once the tray was too hot to touch we poured out some oil, cracked an egg and left nature to do its magic.

For your, viewing pleasure we recorded the test live to see what would happen.
