EUROPE'S first environmentally-friendly vehicle rental location open for business in Oxford last month.

Green Motion Vehicle Rental was founded by the entrepreneur Richard Lowden in April 2006. The concept was simple and that was to provide both corporate and leisure customers the opportunity to hire vehicles (both cars and vans) that boast the latest in low Co2 missions and fuel-saving technologies.

After an in-depth study into fleet procurement, Green Motion successfully negotiated supply terms with some of the world's leading motor manufacturers who are responsible for the development of 'green' vehicles. These include Volkswagen who are supplying Polo, Golf and Passat featuring their new particular filter system known as Bluemotion, Toyota and Honda with their hybrid models ã Prius and Civic, Stop and Start models from Citroen ã C1, C2, C3 and C4 and luxury hybrids from Lexus including the GS and RX with their LS model joining the fleet in 2008. With regards to fleet, Green motion's objective is to ensure that in excess of 70 per cent of their entire fleet falls within the band B grouping in terms of Co2 emissions which is less than 120g/km. With the addition of the Polo Bluemotion to the fleet, Green Motion is also able to boast that they are the only and first UK vehicle rental company to offer a super-mini class vehicle with the Co2 rating falling in band A, which is under 100g/km. Continuing the environmental theme, Green Motion, at both its head office and network has adopted an all-embracing environmental policy maintaining its commitment to reducing their overall impact in terms of CO2 emissions, thereby progressing towards a carbon neutral future. Green Motion's European network is being developed utilising a franchise strategy with its first UK franchise in Oxford being purchased by the husband and wife team of Max and Emma Jacobs.

Richard Lowden commented that Max and Emma 'represent our perfect franchisees in terms of their dedication and commitment to the success of the business and their determination to deliver the highest standards of customer care and service'. Richard went on to say: "Max and Emma have also shown their personal devotion to support Green Motion's environmental strategy both in their business and at home." Max and Emma, after gaining a tremendous amount of experience within the vehicle rental industry, were looking for a business opportunity that would give them a competitive edge.

Max said: "We were researching various business opportunities when we were introduced to Richard Lowden who was developing Europe's first environmentally friendly vehicle rental company. We immediately gained a good understanding of the concept and appreciated the benefits of being able to bring an industry first to our local market that would deliver a real opportunity for companies and private individuals to play their part in reducing their own carbon emissions and genuinely contribute towards changing the effects of global climate change." Green Motion is opening further franchised locations throughout the United Kingdom including several within London and key conurbations following the main arteries up and down the country with European franchise territories going on sale in 2008.
