Dear Sir/ Madam,

I am totally in agreement with Mark Pritchard (Oxford Mail letters, April 23), as I am sure many other people are.

Meat production needs more area of land, and produces more emissions harmful to the planet than cereal production does.

Intensive farming of meat and fowl is cruel, the animals living short, miserable lives, given hormones and antibiotics (passed onto the humans who ingest them).

SARS originated in China in the 2003-2004 era. This was a coronavirus carried by cats, raccoons and badgers, all on sale at squalid markets in South China.

Maybe action should have taken place then and this pandemic catastrophe would not have occurred.

Yours sincerely
