Aspiring snappers and scribes are to be offered a leg up thanks to the efforts of a teenage publisher.

Rahim Hakimi, who lives in Kidlington, has used work submitted by young people aged between 15 and 20 to fill Pendragon magazine, which went on sale this week.

The idea behind the magazine is to offer a platform for young people to showcase their work to a wider audience.

The 18-year-old, who is taking his A-Levels at The Cherwell School, in Marston Ferry Road, Oxford, said: "I was frustrated that I did not have somewhere to show my art and thought there may be others in the same situation.

"I've found there are a lot of very talented teenagers in Oxford who were really keen to get involved."

Rahim embarked on a series of visits to schools around the county to get people on board.

He said: "It was a great way of speaking to people who wanted to get involved and, in some cases, getting the chance to see their work."

The magazine will feature submitted photographs, artwork, as well as feature stories, news and sports articles and reviews.

Rahim said: "We want it to have a bit of everything so as to appeal to as many people as possible.

Joe Carter, 17, who has contributed artwork to the magazine, has already seen a benefit to his involvement.

Joe, who is also a pupil at The Cherwell School, said: "I showed some of my work in the magazine to my friend's parents and they really liked it.

"They have commissioned a print of the same piece, so I'm already getting some recognition."

Sports writer for the magazine, Julian Chaundy, 17, was also excited about his role in Pendragon.

He said: "I thought it would be a great way to get some experience."

Pendragon is for sale at £1.50 in The Cherwell School, Gosford Hill School, Magdalen College School, Oxford High School, Abingdon Boys School and Scriptum stationery shop in Turl Street, Oxford.
