CANCER specialists want to set up a new treatment centre in a Littlemore business park.

GenesisCare UK has applied for permission to turn an empty office in East Point Business Park - next to the Eastern Bypass - into a cancer care centre.

The office is on the first floor of Orion House, in Sandy Lane West, covering 594sq m.

GenesisCare already has a centre centre in the same business park, and was granted planning permission in 2016 to turn the ground floor of Orion House into another.

Its latest proposal seeks the same permission for the rest of the two-storey building, allowing it to use the first floor for consultation and treatment rooms, staff changing rooms and toilets and a 'plant room'.

A planning statement submitted to Oxford City Council said: "GenesisCare UK is building on the success of the existing radiotherapy and chemotherapy services by continuing to invest in new services and state of the art imaging capability.

"They are expanding clinical services whilst introducing [new technology] to provide improved diagnostic and treatment.

"The proposed change of use...represents an investment of around £10m into the local economy."

It said the offices had been marketed since 2014 but there seemed to be 'low demand'.

The city council is due to make its decision by September 25.
