THE golden arches were painted the streets of Botley, but not because a 'McParty' spilled onto the streets– but instead, because angry residents marched with signs branded 'McYuk', 'McStink' to say 'McNo to the Botley Burger.'

The pub had been for sale for seven months, but the sudden closure came as a shock to drinkers.

Nearby residents told the Oxford Mail that after the closure they decided to drink at the Seacourt Bridge Pub, and found former members of bar staff from the Carpenters Arms.

John Pownceby said: "Some of them were crying into their drinks."

McDonald's remains on the site today and last year had a major refurb.
