THE hunt for armed raiders who attacked a 22 year-old woman during a robbery at a co-op store continues today.

The shop worker was hit in the head twice with what police believe was a gun during the incident at the Co-op in Wood Farm on Friday night.

The member of staff was approached outside the back of the Atkyns Road store by two masked men at about 9.20pm.

They hit her on the head with the weapon and then took her into a store room where she was made to open a safe.

She was hit again and the men then stole a large amount of cash.

It is believed they then ran from the shop before getting into a car, which was parked some distance away.

The woman suffered bruising to her head but did not require hospital treatment.

The offenders were wearing dark, possibly leather jackets and light blue jeans.

They both had their faces covered with balaclavas.

Investigating officer, Detective Chief Inspector Clare Knibbs, based at Oxford Police Station, said: "We are carrying out an investigation into this incident, which was clearly very traumatic for the victim.

"People may see an increased police presence in the area as a result.

"The incident took place on a sunny evening, and it is likely that people would have been outside in their gardens, and could have seen or heard something relating to this incident, such as two men in thick clothing or with head covers running away."

He added: "We would be particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have seen the car used by the offenders parked in a layby off Chillingworth Crescent near the Eastern Bypass A4142.
