EMERGENCY services closed a Witney road after a car crashed into a house and caused safety concerns.

Police, fire and ambulance crews were sent to Thorney Leys just before 4pm yesterday afternoon, where a silver car had collided with a house and damaged the brickwork.

Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service did not state the extent of the damage but said the road was closed while experts assessed if the house was structurally safe.

A statement released by the fire service today said 'one casualty was released' from the car before they arrived, and its crew assisted the person before paramedics arrived.

Firefighters removed the car and made the house safe with help from a council building control officer.

The crew manager said: "Collision can be avoided if the diver remains alert and has a good awareness of the surrounding road infrastructure."

South Central Ambulance Service has been contacted for further details.
