A WOMEN'S refugee group will cook up a feast of different cultural dishes for a pop up cafe.

Tomorrow's event, part of Refugee Week, will see the East Oxford Community Centre opened up for the free meal with dishes cooked up from a specially created recipe book.

Local charity Refugee Resource is staging a series of events to celebrate the week, part of a national festival highlighting the contribution of refugees in the UK.

A panel discussion is also being organised on Wednesday, June, 20 at 5.30pm in Somerville College, University of Oxford.

Entitled ‘Women’s Worlds at the Crossroads’, the discussion will focus on the experiences of refugee women in the UK.

Contributors include Fatou Ceesay, the women’s service coordinator at Refugee Resource and Oxford City Councillor Shiasta Aziz, amongst others.

Baroness Royall, the college's principle, said: “The college wants to be an integral part of the Oxford community that welcomes refugees, celebrates diversity and draws inspiration from the women who have come to this country seeking refuge.”

Last year Refugee Resource's women's group created ‘Come to Our Table’, a recipe book featuring food and drinks from their home countries.

Tomorrow's cafe will be the second of four to be held this year in partnership with the Oxford City of Sanctuary.

The project aims to develop connections with other groups of people in Oxfordshire, to reduce isolation and exclusion.

It is being funded by Oxfordshire Community Foundation’s High Sheriff’s Community Integration Awards for initiatives bringing together different communities.

A group member, Dilber, said: ‘It was not safe for me back home. When I came here they opened the door for me. This country has given so much to me, to us, and we want to give back.’

The cafe will be open from 12pm-2pm.
